Meet the Jolly Jangles by Marilyn Cook is a delightful book written in rhyming verse where children are introduced to Jolly Jangles, a family of twelve teddy bears. Each rhyme has a question asked by a teddy bear, which makes it a fun and interactive book for young readers. Apart from conveying beautiful messages of sharing, being different and yet being friends, the rhymes take children through the different seasons in a very novel and charming way. Let us meet Scruff, Puddle, Podge, Rainbow, Naughty, Blossom, Sunshine, Butterfly, Sunset, Autumn, Breeze, and Snowflake, join the discussion, and try doing the things they do.

This book is entertaining, whimsical, and captivating and it makes learning fun and interesting. The author has created the twelve teddy bears using her crochet hook, thereby giving them each a personality of their own, and children will love meeting them. The backdrop where the teddy bears are placed is vibrant, lively, and arresting and gives a good pace and movement to the rhymes. It is a perfect book to introduce to children in classrooms and homes to make learning fun. This book will also introduce readers to rhyming verses and writing short poems.

Which one is your favourite teddy? Which is your favourite colour? Which time of the year do you like the most? There a lot of questions that require answers from young readers and I am sure they will have fun figuring out their favourite teddy, colour, season, etc. I cannot wait to read the next book to learn more about the Jolly Jangles.

The Jolly Jangles are magical creatures that look like stuffed toys. But toys they are not! It’s winter and the Jolly Jangles enjoy playing in the snow. When their friend Rudolph (Rudy) the reindeer appears, they invite him to join in the fun. But he’s so sad. He’s lost his red nose. What is Rudy without his red nose? The Jolly Jangles rack their brains for creative ways to help Rudy find a red nose. They ask Robbie the Robin with his red breast to sit on his nose, but the cardinal can’t stay there all day. He has things to do. Nibbles the squirrel helps them find some red berries to place on Rudy’s nose, but they keep falling off. Each of the Jolly Jangles has an idea and, with the help of different woodland creatures, they work together to help solve Rudy’s problem.

Marilyn Cook’s picture book story, Rudy’s Lost His Red Nose! A Jolly Jangle Christmas Story, is the second book in her Jolly Jangle series. Written partly in rhyming verse with bubbles for the speaking parts and accompanied by delightful illustrations, the plot develops steadily as the Jolly Jangles work together to help Rudy solve the mystery of his missing red nose. It’s Christmas Eve and they have to work quickly to solve the problem. There are many things about this story that will not only entertain but teach young readers. Using a dyslexia-friendly font, the author has presented a story that is easy for all young readers to follow with ease. The simple language will encourage young readers to try to read along or to read alone. The ingenuity of the Jolly Jangles will encourage young readers to be creative in their problem-solving skills. And the power of working together to solve a problem is clear throughout. A charming story with lots of learning skills.
